KNOW News
(488 k)
Short, snappy reads on what’s new in science. KNOW News
brings readers up to date with the latest discoveries and
newest inventions. Here’s KNOW News from our July/Aug
2006 issue. |

|
KNOW It /
KNOW You (316 k)
Each issue of KNOW includes a close-up look at an object
(KNOW It), an animal (KNOW Them), and some aspect of human
biology (KNOW You). Here is the KNOW It (on sparklers) and
the KNOW You (on freckles) from our July/Aug 2006 issue. |

Theme:
Light and Colour (652 k)
Almost half of each issue of KNOW focuses on a particular
topic. Past themes have included Ice and Snow, the Solar System,
and Dogs. Here is the first three pages of our Light and Colour
issue from Sept/Oct 2006. |

Theme: Great
Moments in Science
(636 k)
In the theme section, we try to present information in a variety
of ways. One of our favourites is the recurring comic biography,
Great Moments in Science. In this feature, we look at an individual
who has made an important contribution to science. In the
May/June 2006 issue on balloons, we meet Joseph and Étienne
Montgolfier who developed the hot air balloon. |

Theme: KNOW
It Alls (268 k)
Kids this age are overflowing with how, what, when, and, especially,
why questions! We help answer some of these pressing questions
in the KNOW It Alls section. These answers are from our July/Aug
2006 issue, which had a theme of Science of the Shore. |
|
 |
|
Theme:
Science in Action (252 k)
Another way to explore each issue’s theme, is to meet
a scientist working in a related field. In the July/Aug 2006
Science of the Shore issue, we meet a shorebird researcher. |
|
 |
|
KNOW Fun
(432)
Our recurring puzzle pages are designed to engage and involve
our readers while simultaneously developing thinking skills.
These pages are from our May/June 2006 issue. |
|

|
Hands-on Projects:
KNOW How
(772 k)
Part of the fun of science is doing hands-on experiments,
so in every issue we include one or two projects kids can
do at home using simple materials. In our Light and Colour
issue (Sept/Oct 2006), we made a lens out of jelly and explored
pigments using a coffee filter and water. |
