Mummies tell scientists more about the past than just how a human body is preserved. In Egyptian Mummies, Delia Pemberton tells readers how archaeologists find out what life was like in ancient times. Seven mummies provide readers with clues to Egypt’s past. “Ginger”, the mummified remains of a person who died more than 5,000 years ago, gives hints of what life was like before Pharaohs and dynasties ruled the land. Hornedjitef was a priest who lived about 240 BC and it’s believed he might not have been rich, but he was important. Befriending these seven mummies opens up a whole new world—just hold onto your internal organs! And don’t worry about all those curses. Sure they were written right on the tombs, but it was probably to scare robbers away. Or maybe not. Remember what happened to the Titanic after a mummy from the British Museum was loaded aboard....or was it?

The book was very well-designed and I thought the topic was very interesting. I love mummies! What I liked the most about the book was how the author told you how Egyptians made mummies. In fact, I liked everything about the book and can think of nothing I didn’t like. Reading the book was a lot of fun. I learned something from the book, too. Now I know what all the gods and goddesses names are, like Anubis and Isis. The book is perfect the way it is, I would change nothing. I especially liked the drawings of the gods. My overall impression was—delicious! (I’m an information hog.) The score I would give it out of 10, is 10!
